Mood: Summer

17 May

***California Gurls [Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg]

When Nikhil and I met Katy Perry at an acoustic performance back in ’07, we both agreed that she was “ehh okay.” I wrote in my blog that she was mediocre and her songs were too contrived. I still think she remains mediocre in terms of actual music talent, however, I cannot deny the incredible catchiness of her music and her allure as a pop artist. I’m sure this song will become a big summer anthem, especially with Snoop Dogg  by her side (who doesn’t love this guy? i would love to just chill with him). Her sophomore album is coming out August 24, aptly titled “Teenage Dream.”

***ADD SUV (Armand Van Helden Club Remix) [Uffie and Pharrell Williams]

I instantaneously fell in love with this song when at 1:16, Pharrell says “Bring her” and the funk beat starts… whoa whoa whoa… so juicy. I like Uffie because she’s loud, fun… but not dumb. Uffie’s loooong waited debut album “Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans” is officially released on June 8.

***You Wanted a Hit (Keljet Remix) [LCD Soundsystem]

Nothing like chilling on the beach doing what LCD Soundsystem is singing about with your closest friends, a cooler of beers, and watching the waves breaking at dusk.

*** Forever Young [Jay-Z and Beyonce] at Coachella 2010

A classic song covered by a super cool couple in a non-cheesy way. And I love the way Jay-Z introduced his wife.
