1, Amazing Baby

This relatively new Brooklyn based band looks like ABBA raised by a pack of wolves. I really like this song “Head Dress” by them. Despite being somewhat new, I have read reviews that they are quite good live so hopefully as they start playing more shows I will have the opportunity to see them.

2, We Are Scientists

WAS, or tWAS, started in 2000 and consist of Keith Murray, guitar and lead vocals; Chris Cain, bass guitar and backing vocals; Michael Tapper, drums and backing vocals. They also have a funny website.

How they got together: “It’s complex and a little embarrassing, but it’s something we can kind of laugh about now, however hesitantly. Michael had this huge crush on Keith; like, huge. And of course Keith had been friends with Chris for a couple of years at this point and had always nursed this gigantic crush of his own toward Chris, but always in secret. Now, Chris had never really thought of Keith as anything more than a friend, a good friend with a great body, so nothing had ever really happened between them, excepting the occasional drunken round of mattress dancing (literally; we’re not using ‘mattress dancing’ as a sexual euphemism, we mean literally dancing — bouncing along to music — on a mattress or a set of adjoining mattresses). But so Chris, who had always been careful to keep things fraternal with Keith, developed this major huge crush on Michael soon after meeting him. So what you’ve got there is you’ve got your typical love triangle; a textbook example, in fact — perfect in its proportions, an equilateral love triangle, as experts in math would say. 3, El Perro Del Mar

EPDM (aka Sarah Assbring) is currently touring with Lykke Li (LOVE her). Her newest album ‘From the Valley to the Stars’ was released on April 22nd in the U.S. The release will be followed by a North American throughout May 2008. The album will be released in the UK and Europe in the middle of May.

I dig this track. Partially because when I sing along, I sing it as “I’m an (unemployed) lady.” It makes it harder to sing but 10x funner. Funner.

Estelle

As much as I love Alicia Keys, I’m just getting a tinge sick of her (good yet so familiar sounding to all her other stuff) music. I was just listening to “Teenage Romance” or “Teenage Pregnancy” or whatever her new single is called and after the first minute or so, I thought to myself: ‘This sure sounds nice but when will Usher come on and start calling Alicia his boo?’

Thankfully there are TONS of other people trying to make R&B happen. Like Fanta Estelle Swaray aka Estelle whose song “American Boy” with Kanye reached number one in the UK singles chart on March 23.

THE TEENAGERZZZZZZZ

I went to the Teenagers show on Monday at the Bowery Ballroom and I finally met Dorian. I also stole their set list which was written on the back of a brown bag from their stage (mwa ha ha). They are SO French. I’m not entirely sure what that means but throughout the show, I would make comments about the lead singer’s dancing or their accents or what not and my friend M would respond “They are SO French.” Because, they are so French.

“Are you really going to eat that Brooklyn peeza? It’s SO greezy.”

I love Dorian. He is my Korean Crepe. I love his curly, greezy hair and his ginormous glasses. After the show, I spoke with him briefly and he said something with a greezy French accent and then my friend M said, He is SO French. I was busy swooning.

Okay, but back to my review. The Teenagers are good live. They have energy, their songs have energy, and they are not afraid of interacting with the crowd. I really enjoyed the show and I had yet to begin drinking heavily (this happened later in the night, along with hot pockets and pudding cups).

Wow this a shitty review. It’s basically just me gushing about Dorian.

They are good. Go see them! (Better?)

I have been in luh luh luh luh luh-ve with this song “Little Bit” and have waiting for the right time to post it. Here it is. I love it. It’s poppy but not in the traditional sense: a bit more complex than your usual “too easy to listen to” top 40 song. Plus I think she looks like an indie Natasha Bedingfield.

1, The Kooks

Singer/guitarist Luke, lead guitarist Hugh Harris, bassist Max Rafferty (correction: he is not with the Kooks anymore - Thanks Mimi!) and drummer Paul Garred constitute the Kooks, a British band that is quickly gaining popularity.
